Procedure:
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, tightens the abdominal
wall to create a smoother, flatter abdomen. Most
tummy tuck patients have loose abdominal wall skin,
perhaps associated with genetics or a pregnancy,
and have difficulty toning these muscles with exercise.
An abdominoplasty might be combined with liposuction
or a thigh lift for enhanced results.
Length
of procedure:
About 2-5 hours
Anesthesia:
General anesthesia
In/outpatient
Depends, mini-tummy tucks are usually outpatient
but extended procedures might involve a hospital
stay
Risks:
Major complications are rare, though all surgical
procedures may carry some degree of risk. Specific
potential risks can’t be determined for any
given individual until a doctor in Oklahoma has
been able to meet with the patient to evaluate the
situation and prior health conditions.
Notable potential risks include
blood clots, infection or scarring
Recovery:
Abdominoplasty is one of the less comfortable plastic
surgery procedures, but oral medication is usually
adequate relief
Back to work: 2-4 weeks
Strenuous activity: usually about 6 weeks
Final appearance: settling of scars can take 3 months
to several years
Duration of results:
Usually permanent, sometimes a second procedure
is necessary
