Procedure:
A breast reduction reduces large breasts through
the relocation of the nipple-areolar complex (pigmented
area around the nipple) and removal of excess breast
tissue, fat and skin. What results are smaller,
more attractively contoured breasts. Because of
over-sized breasts, many patients suffer health
problems such as back and neck pain, chafing under
the breasts or irritation from bra straps. This
procedure will relieve such patients of these health
problems.
Length of procedure:
Usually about 2-4 hours
Anesthesia:
General anesthesia
In/outpatient
Usually outpatient, occasional hospital stay involved
Risks:
Major complications are rare, though all surgical
procedures may carry some degree of risk. Specific
potential risks can’t be determined for any
given individual until a doctor in Oklahoma has
been able to meet with the patient to evaluate the
situation and prior health conditions.
Notable potential risks include
loss of ability to breast-feed.
Recovery:
Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.
Back to work: usually at least 1-2 weeks
Strenuous activity: 3-4 weeks
Final appearance: Scars should fad within 6-18 months
Duration of results:
Usually permanent, though shape may fluctuate with
hormonal changes, pregnancy, and weight changes.
